The role of the Director of Energy and Sustainability is to lead, direct, and carry out strategic and tactical implementation of relevant initiatives for a region or account on a global basis.
The responsibilities include Energy and Sustainability management, which includes providing technical leadership and enhancing mechanical and electrical systems performance across all properties being managed. Lead team in implementing new technologies, identifying cost saving opportunities, managing initiatives, and engaging the company’s team to identify and implement sustainable products, processes, best practices, and technologies.
The goal is to help reduce the client’s energy and water consumption. He will identify and prioritize initiatives based on an evaluation of their life cycle cost and/ or ability to enhance the client reputation. Work with the client’s team on the development and implementation of external sustainability communications. Provide strategic and technical leadership in all areas of energy and sustainability management. Oversee and direct in conducting LEED gap analyses and provide energy and sustainability input to new construction and other capital projects. Develop and present monthly energy and sustainability status and variance reports. Conduct team meetings. Develop objectives, scope narratives, financial summaries, and operational policies and procedures related to fit outs, leases, and defits that comply with LEED principles, and ensuring efficient cross-portfolio dissemination.
Oversee and direct the monitoring and reporting of energy use and spending trends. Communicate past, present, and future energy plans and performance to the team and client. Provide formal supervision to individual employees within single functional or operational area. Approve subordinate’s staffing recommendations. Recommend direct reports to the next level management. Plan and monitor appropriate staffing levels. Prepare and deliver performance appraisal. Mentors and coach team members for further competency development.
Education and Experience
The candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from four-year College or University and at least 8 years’ relevant experience and/or training; preferably with at least 6 years’ management level experience. CEM qualification is required and will preferably have LEED accreditation.
The candidate is required to have in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles. Must have the ability to calculate complex figures, forecast, and prepare budgets. Should have excellent communication skills and can comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex business documents and solve advanced problems. Should have expert analytical and quantitative skills.
The ideal candidate must have ability to negotiate effectively and make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups. It is preferable to have proven experience in developing strategic solutions for a growing matrix-based multi-industry sales environment. Carbon footprint reporting experience or training will be preferred.
