Job Description
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to project teams involved in renewable construction projects. Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, this role will handle all aspects of legal and regulatory compliance, contract management, and risk mitigation, ensuring alignment with both Malaysian and international standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction and subcontract agreements to align with project objectives and legal requirements. Advising project management teams on legal risks and obligations related to contract terms, regulatory issues, and compliance matters. Managing disputes and claims, including preparing for mediation or arbitration, in collaboration with external counsel as needed.
Ensuring project activities meet all legal, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Collaborating with external regulatory bodies to maintain compliance in all operational activities. Keeping abreast of legal and industry developments, with a focus on renewable energy legislation.
Education and Experience
The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Law; admission to the Malaysian Bar or equivalent. Minimum of 7 years of legal experience, ideally within the construction, renewable energy, or hydropower sectors.
Strong understanding of Malaysian construction law and experience handling high-value contracts and claims. Proven negotiation skills and ability to handle complex commercial and regulatory issues.
